Total Recap= They are in Earth's Distant Past. They need to find a rock, and bring it to the TARDIS.
The Past (from before the story starts)
Recap= There is a big ship in trouble. We have to fix it to save the people who live there.
Details= We have been on a Worldship. Think of it as a spaceship that is so big and goes so slow that it's got generations of people living on it. There are farms and schools, Lawyers, artists. Condos. Everything you'd find in a Town. Its a way to take a large amount of people a long way, perhaps to find a planet to resettle on eventually. In fiction, they tend to be like a tiny round planet, only the people live on the inside surface instead of the outside surface.

LINK This is more like the one we've been on
On that ship, for whatever Aliens or humans there are, they've lost/destroyed/used up a mineral that they need to grow food/ synthesize food/power the ship/rebuild a broken drive/fix a force shield. Just as Sarah and the Doctor had left, the place was on fire. Due to food riots/ some sort of rebellion/ naked sun coming in through the 'windows'/drive melt down.
The Present (where we are now as the story starts)
Recap= The Doctor knows what the ship needs to be fixed. It's a mineral. It can be found on Earth. He wants to get it from Earth's distant past while it's still in big lumps and there are no cops.
Details= The mineral is rare. It is Allanite. This is it's LINK Wikipedia Page you can get scientific details from if you want the Doctor to say Science things. It's pretty, and it's naturally slightly radioactive.
The Future (what happens next)
Recap=They get to Earth's Past where there are Dinosaurs, and maybe some tribe of Silurians (like Vastra, only more primitive in culture). They go find the mineral.
Details= The Doctor has a pocket-sized gadget that will help them find the Allanite. They can't be on the TARDIS while they search, the gadget doesn't have that kind of range.
It is the Cretaceous Era. 66 million years ago. We might cross paths with a Dinosaur or two, but it's NOT like Jurrasic Park. Same Dinos, but we'll assume they are well spread out.
