"What are you doing?"
"Improvising!"
"Hang on!"

Hang on she did, her arms wrapping around Ace's whipchord waist and loose jacket.  Sarah Jane clung tight, wanting to move in tandem with the driver, even so much as putting a foot down as Ace slung the bike around.  She got a brief glance at three headlights that weren't exactly headlights before they peeled off.  She hoped not to get shot in the back, but there was some small consolation that perhaps she would shield her young partner.

She'd heard the lore.  That Ace was the youngest companion to the Doctor since he'd traveled with his granddaughter all those long years ago.  Just sixteen.  Sarah Jane didn't know how she would have dealt with what she'd been through traveling with the Doctor if she'd been so young.

What does that do to a person?

Sarah Jane let out a yip as a bolt of something hit the road not so very far from her own right foot.

"Faster, Ace! I won't fall off!" She shouted, hoping Ace in her helmet could hear her.

"This isn't my first time! I can stick with you!" She assured her.

Then Ace was pushing something back to her.  Some thick bracelet, it was.  Sarah Jane eased up on her grip just long enough to get a glance of the thing.  She's seen a few in her days it was Time Ring, or something like it was in her hand.  Then she was snugged up against Ace's back again. She had to be fearless to hold on as Ace maneuvered.

"If I hold you tight, it will take both of us, right?!"

Perhaps this had been a rash idea. The only thing that kept her on that motorcycle was a good grip and faith in the Doctor's friends. Sarah Jane had heard about Ace, and decided that this was an acceptable risk. Not that they had much choice.

As they pulled out of their wild maneuver, it seemed they were starting to loose their pursuers. Some time soon she'd let them both be caught if the right opportunity presented itself, but not yet. Not until they'd had time to exchange some information.

"!@#$" She said as Ace made another wild wiggle.

"We need to talk!" She shouted forward. "Once we loose them, we need to go somewhere no one would think to find you!"

For a hair-raising second, Sarah Jane wished she was driving.  Then sense came and she knew Ace would do a better job of it.  It was just her youth lead her to drive like she was immortal.  Sarah Jane felt herself break out in a nervous sweat when they blew through the intersection.

Quickly, she did the math between going to the river Thames or going all the way to the Channel.  She mumbled as she ran through the number trying to track exactly where the were and where they were going.

"Head West, next chance, then we'll go south to the Channel!" She shouted up. "Oh Go Left! Go Left here!"

It didn't look possible they could make the turn, but she dare say it would shake off their tail.  She held on tight.  As usual, any time the Doctor was involved, the stakes rose tenfold.

At least she was wearing leather.

Sarah Jane held on tight.  She was ready to loose a kneecap in the tight turn.  All she could do was try to become one with the driver.  To surrender even though it seemed the must fall.  Her heart pounded hard and seemed to join with the acceleration of the engine.  Somehow . . no not some how, with Ace's skill and bravery they made it through the turn.

"I'm good! I'm good!  No wonder the Doctor snatched you up!"

Gently she knocked twice on the woman's helmet for good luck.  Nobody could have matched that turn.  Not in a car.  That impossibly tight turn had bought them time.

"Just stay on this highway . . .I'll watch behind you watch ahead."  She shivered in the cold and clutched at her sudden companion.  Before she looked behind, she looked down.  "Ace! You're shoe is on fire!"

The rubber must have caught on the road.

"I'll buy you new boots!" Sarah Jane shouted into the wind.  A wind that had died down as they slowed down.  She looked back over her shoulder.  They'd lost their pursuers for the moment, but they better keep going.  When she looked back around and still saw fanned flames coming from Ace's boot, it came clear that the young woman's foot was in danger now.  Apparently, Ace had a plan, and Sarah Jane did not care for it, though she could hardly deny the expedience of it.

Ace just bent well over and was going after the offending footwear.  The cycle instantly started to bobble.  In response, Sarah Jane stood on her pegs and lunged for the forks.  Her body was now in an uncomfortable U over Ace's patch adorned jacket.

"I got it! I got it!"

Then she whispered nervously to herself, "I think I got it.
